Before You Buy a Bed: Measure the Mattress and Room

THE TARTEEBHOME GUIDE

Named sizes are a starting point. Actual measurements make the choice clearer.

Measure the mattress you will use

Record mattress width, length and depth in centimetres. Compare those measurements with the bed’s stated compatible mattress dimensions. “King” and “Queen” labels can vary across suppliers; a named size alone does not confirm compatibility.

Distinguish mattress size from bed size

An upholstered frame, headboard and footboard can add to the overall footprint. Ask for the total width and length as well as the mattress opening. Check headboard height against windows, sockets and wall details.

Leave room for everyday movement

Mark the complete bed footprint on the floor. Check the walking routes, wardrobe doors, bedside tables and access for making the bed. For a storage bed, confirm how drawers or lifting mechanisms open and the clearance they need.

Check support and what is included

Ask whether the listing includes a mattress, slats, a base or only the frame. Confirm the support system, assembly requirements and any relevant care or use limits. Do not infer included items from a styled photograph.

Measure the delivery route

Compare the packed or sectional dimensions with doors, stairs, lift openings and turns. Ask which components arrive separately and what assembly service, if any, the seller actually offers.

Confirm custom choices

Record the agreed fabric, colour, headboard design, dimensions and lead time for a made-to-order bed. Ask to see the available fabric sample or finish reference before committing to a custom choice.
