Home Office: Measure the Work, Then the Furniture

THE TARTEEBHOME GUIDES

Build a practical workspace around the tasks, equipment and storage you use each day.

Write down what the desk must hold

Measure your screen, keyboard, papers and other equipment. Allow for the working space between them and decide what can move into separate storage. Compare usable desktop dimensions, not only the overall product footprint. A slim-looking desk can still occupy more room than expected once the chair and nearby doors are included.

Check desk and chair together

Compare the chair’s actual dimensions and adjustment range with the desk opening. Ask for the clearance under the surface, including drawers or supports. Consider where your arms, feet and equipment will go during the tasks you perform. A furniture style name is not an ergonomic certification; confirm the actual fit and available adjustments.

Plan circulation and cables

Measure the route behind the chair and access to drawers, cupboards and room doors. Locate sockets and decide how cables will reach the equipment without relying on an accessory that is not included. Ask whether cable openings or management fittings are part of the supplied desk. Keep access for cleaning and maintenance in the plan.

Choose storage by the contents

Measure folders, books and devices before comparing shelves or drawers. Request usable internal dimensions and shelf loading information where relevant. Confirm whether shelves are fixed or adjustable, and review the manufacturer’s assembly and installation instructions. Do not infer a load capacity from the number of shelves or from a staged photograph.

Compare the actual finish

Ask which parts are solid wood, engineered panels, metal or another stated material. Check the cleaning instructions for the work surface and whether a sample is available if matching furniture matters. A wood-look tone does not establish species or construction. Decide which features are necessary before adding decorative pieces.

Make a clear purchase or project brief

Send the seller the listing link, measurements, equipment list and access information. Confirm the selected offer’s included components, options, delivery and assembly. For a tailored workspace, use space-planning enquiries and distinguish your reference ideas from an agreed specification.
