Lighting: Choose the Job Before the Shape

THE TARTEEBHOME GUIDES

Compare the purpose, placement and supplied specification before choosing a lamp or light fitting.

Decide what needs light

Describe whether you want to light the room generally, support reading or work, or draw attention to a particular object. Photograph the current room in daylight and with the existing lights on. Mark where people sit, walk and work. A decorative photograph does not show how much light the offered fitting produces in your room.

Ask what is included

Confirm whether the offer includes a bulb, shade, driver, mounting components or other accessories. Request the lamp or fitting’s supplied electrical specification and any manufacturer instructions. Do not infer bulb compatibility, dimming support or smart controls from its appearance. If a replacement component is required, ask for the exact supported specification.

Measure the position

Compare the actual width, depth, height and cable or suspension length with the planned location. For a table or floor lamp, consider the base footprint and how it fits beside existing furniture. For a pendant, describe the table or circulation area below it and ask your installer about the appropriate position. Do not treat a staged image as an installation measurement.

Check the visual details

Ask for a daylight photograph of the finish and material where matching matters. A brass-coloured finish does not establish solid brass, and a glass-look shade may use another material. Compare the shape and proportion alongside the stated specification. Use style guidance as a visual starting point, then confirm the actual supplied components.

Arrange suitable installation

Use a suitably qualified professional for work that requires installation or electrical changes. Share the manufacturer’s instructions and the actual site conditions. This buying guide does not provide wiring instructions or certify a fitting’s electrical safety. Clarify installation scope, availability and charges separately from the product offer.

Keep the seller offer clear

Confirm the selected seller’s price, availability, delivery, warranty and supplied items. Save the SKU and product instructions. Browse Lighting, then ask about the product-specific details before purchasing or arranging installation.
