THE TARTEEBHOME GUIDES
Separate the practical job of storing books from the visual job of displaying objects. Choose a shelf system that can do both safely.
Choose a furniture type
A freestanding bookcase, wall shelf, floating shelf and ladder unit have different installation and use requirements. Decide whether you need enclosed storage, adjustable shelves or an open display. Measure books and objects by their actual depth and height. A shallow display shelf may not be suitable for a full book collection. Confirm the product’s intended use and load limits rather than relying on the category name.
Measure the wall and contents
Record available width, height and depth, plus sockets, switches and skirting. Plan how doors and adjacent furniture operate. Ask for usable shelf dimensions, spacing and adjustability. Keep heavier objects in positions allowed by the product instructions and avoid overloading a shelf. Tall or wall-mounted furniture requires the supplied anchoring or fixing approach to be checked for the actual wall.
Style without losing function
Group books so frequently used titles remain accessible, and leave practical space for removal. Vary object heights if you like, but keep fragile objects stable and away from edges. A few gaps can make a display easier to read without sacrificing essential capacity. Repeated colour or material can connect mixed objects; it does not require buying a matching decorative set.
Maintain and adapt
Check shelf alignment and fixings as instructed by the manufacturer, especially after moving the unit. Dust using the method suitable for the supplied finish and protect surfaces from plant water. Do not add climbing loads or use shelves as steps. When your collection grows, recheck the stated capacity before adding more weight. If dimensions or wall conditions are uncertain, prepare a carpentry or assembly enquiry with measurements and photos.
